Junior Steven Rivas (3-for-4) collected three of Houston's 10 hits and reached base four times while sophomore Ian McMillan (1-for-4) struck a grand slam and accounted for five RBIs. The Cougars (3-0) plated six runs in the third and jumped out to an 8-0 advantage.

The Cougars batted .354 (35-for-99) on the weekend, clubbing five home runs along 10 doubles. Houston pitching limited Texas Southern to a .183 average alongside 2.33 ERA.

Eight Houston student-athletes contributed a hit including Tyler Bielamowicz who added two RBIs. Junior Ryan Hernandez drew two walks and plated three runs alongside an RBI. Andrew Papantonis (1-for-4) added another RBI while Samuel Benjamin (1-for-2) plated two runs.

HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• Rivas turned in a 3-for-4 showing with one home run and three RBIs.
• McMillan hit his second career home run in a 1-for-4 effort including five RBIs.
• Benjamin finished 1-for-2 and added a stolen base.

Pitching:
• Sophomore right-handed pitcher Blake Schultz (1-0) made his Houston debut and logged the win. He tossed 4.1 innings, scattering four hits while striking out three alongside one run.
• Senior right-handed pitcher Sean Bretz made his first appearance since 2019. Bretz
totaled three strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
• Making his season debut, Tristen Bayless recorded a strikeout in 0.2 innings.
• In two innings, sophomore right-handed pitcher Derrick Cherry allowed one hit and a walk in 2.0 innings.
