Jackson, Georgiades named AVCA Southeast All-Region honorable mention
HOUSTON – Houston volleyball junior Abbie Jackson and sophomore Kate Georgiades followed up their All-American Athletic Conferencee first-team selections with American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) Southeast All-Region honorable mention nods on Tuesday.
For Jackson, the honorable mention honor is her second in consecutive seasons. The honorable mention award for Georgiades is her first AVCA award after she led the region in total digs (663) and digs/set (5.39) in her first season on Cullen Blvd.
Georgiades had one 40-plus dig match, four 30-plus dig matches, 14 20-plus dig matches, and 31 10-plus dig matches over the 2021 season.
The College Station, Texas native tied for fourth in the nation for digs in a 5-set match (41) and ranked seventh in the nation for digs in a 4-set match (36). The 41-dig performance ranks third all-time in UH history and the 36 digs is a 4-set match school record.
The American Athletic Conference Libero of the Year and All-AAC first-team selection ranks fifth all-time in UH history for digs in a season (663)
Houston's most potent attacking weapon in 2021, Jackson ranked second in the conference play in kills/set with 4.30, second in conference play with 5.01 points/set and sixth in conference play in aces/set with 0.41. The junior led the nation in attacking attempts with 1,554, ranked 44th nationally with a 4.03 kills/set average, 34th nationally in points/set with 4.73 and sixth nationally with 582 total points.
The Gig Harbor, Wash. native tallied a season-high 31 kills at East Carolina, posted double-digit kills in 30 of 32 matches and hit a career-high .471 against Lipscomb in the season opener.
