Cougars tip off vs. Texas State at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside Fertitta Center
HOUSTON – Winners of six of it last seven games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program closes out the year 2021 and its regular-season non-conference schedule when it faces Texas State at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside the Fertitta Center.
#13/14Houston enters this week's lone game following a 72-61 win over Oklahoma State during the Hoop Hype XL | College Basketball Showcase inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, on Saturday. It was the Cougars' fifth straight win in that facility after knocking off #14/13 Texas Tech during the Southwest Showcase and posting three consecutive victories in as many days during the American Athletic Conference Tournament in March.
Against the Cowboys, with the Cougars holding a 2-point lead, sophomore point guard Jamal Shead scored 11 straight points for Houston to build a 10-point advantage. The Manor, Texas, native finished with game highs of 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the Cougars.
This season, junior guard Marcus Sasser leads the Cougars and ranks third in the American Athletic Conference with 18.1 points per game. The Dallas native is one of four Cougars averaging double-digit points with senior guard Kyler Edwards (12.3 ppg), graduate forward Fabian White Jr. (10.4 ppg) and sophomore guard Tramon Mark (10.1 ppg) following.

• With a win over Texas State on Wednesday, graduate forward Fabian White Jr. will compete in the 100th victory of his collegiate career, becoming only the third player in school history to reach that total. He would join Houston greats Galen Robinson Jr. (103 wins, 2015-19) and school-record-holder Michael Young (109 wins, 1980-84).
• Senior guard Kyler Edwards became a 1,000-point scorer during his collegiate career with a 3-pointer in the first half against Oklahoma State. Edwards now has a total of 1,004 points in his career (148 at Houston, 856 at Texas Tech, 2018-21).

• Head Coach Kelvin Sampson is very familiar with Texas State Associate Head Coach Bennie Seltzer. Seltzer was an All-Pac-10 guard as a player for Sampson at Washington State from 1989 to 1993 and was an assistant coach for Sampson at Oklahoma from 1997 to 2006.
