Men’s Basketball to Meet Northwestern State on Tuesday

Cougars tip off vs. Demons at 7 p.m., Tuesday, inside the Fertitta Center

It will be the first of two home games this week. The Cougars meet Bryant for the first time in school history at 7 p.m., Friday, inside the Fertitta Center.
No. 15/14 Houston enters Tuesday's game after finishing third at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational last week in Las Vegas. After a First-Round victory over Butler, the Cougars overcame a disappointing loss to Wisconsin in the Semifinals to take a big win over rv/No. 23 Oregon in the Third-Place contest.
Graduate forward Fabian White Jr. posted 13.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game to lead the Cougars in all three categories and earn a place on the Maui Invitational All-Tournament Team.
With his impressive performance at the Maui Invitational, White moved third on the team with 10.2 points per game and into a tie for second with 5.5 rebounds per contest.
The Atascocita, Texas, native ranks fourth in school history and needs a victory over the Demons to move into a tie for third with Houston great Reid Gettys for the most career wins in Houston history.
With his appearance in Tuesday's game, White also will move into a tie for 17th with Charles Thompson (1974-78) in Houston history with 118 career games played.
This season, junior guard Marcus Sasser continues to lead the Cougars and rank sixth in the American Athletic Conference with 17.3 points per game. Edwards ranks second among the Cougars with 13.8 points per contest and tops the team with a 44.7 3-point field goal percentage.

• The Cougars are one of only four schools to rank among the Associated Press Top 20 in both Football and Men's Basketball. Houston Football checked in at No. 16 in the final poll of the regular season Sunday.
• Houston joins Alabama (No. 4 Football/No. 16 Men's Basketball), Baylor (No. 9 Football/No. 4 Men's Basketball) and BYU (No. 12 Football/No. 13 Men's Basketball) in the exclusive group.

ABOUT NORTHWESTERN STATE
• Northwestern State enters Tuesday's game with a 1-6 overall record. The Demons are 0-3 in road games this season.
• Demons have lost their last four games. Only a 91-62 win over Champion Christian College on Nov. 13 prevents a longer streak.
• In its most recent action, Northwestern State dropped a 72-68 home decision to Stephen F. Austin in Natchitoches, La., on Sunday.
• Against Stephen F. Austin, freshman center Kendal Coleman posted 14 points, eight rebounds and a pair of steals to lead the Demons. Sophomore guard Cedric Garrett totaled 13 points with four assists and two steals, while sophomore guard Jalen King came off the bench to score 10 points with three rebounds.
• This season, Coleman leads the Demons with 16.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while hitting 61.1 percent (55-of-90) from the field. Junior guard Brian White is tops with 4.0 assists per game.
• Head Coach Mike McConathy is in his 23rd season at Northwestern State and as a collegiate head coach.
• McConathy has compiled a 322-360 record with the Demons during his career.
• McConathy is 0-1 against Houston and 0-1 against Houston Head Coach Kelvin Sampson during their careers.

SERIES HISTORY vs. NORTHWESTERN STATE
• Houston owns a 3-0 lead against Northwestern State in the series, which began during the 1969-70 season.
• Cougars have enjoyed tremendous success against the Demons, winning by an average of 19.3 points per game.
• Houston has increased its margin of victory with each game of the series winning by 13 (81-68, Dec. 3, 1970); by 18 (96-78, Dec. 5, 1988) and by 27 (82-55, Nov. 19, 2018).
