Cougars complete second meet against Southeastern Conference Opponent
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program traveled to Arkansas on Saturday to take on the Razorbacks in a dual-meet at the Arkansas Natatorium.
Houston put up 116 points falling to Arkansas who scored 198 in 16 events. However, the Cougars did see a first-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle with Mary Catherine Jurica topping the leaderboard with a time of 10:20:35.
"We are walking away from the meet encouraged for Phill Hansel," stated Head Coach Tanica Jamison. "There were a lot of season-best performances in the pool and on the boards. We saw better execution of individual race plans and our team fought through adversity which brought a new energy that we will need for the future. Coach Allan [McCallum], Bob [Gunter], and I are very excited for what is to come."
Houston saw continued program success on the scoreboard with multiple Cougars placing in the top five of various events.
In regards to facing a second Southeastern Conference team this month, Coach Jamison stated, "Competing against teams in a Power Five conference helps us get better as a program and will help us when we compete against teams in the American Athletic Conference."
On the diving portion of the meet, Houston topped the leaderboard in the three-meter springboard event. Chase Farris earned top marks for her performance scoring nine points for the Cougars. She saw season-high scores on both the one and three-meter boards.
In the one-meter event, Emilia Waters earned second place for Houston and third in the three-meter as well.
"Everyone continues to show improvement in both consistency and details," expressed Diving Coach Bob Gunter. "I am looking forward to this trend continuing into next month's Phill Hansel Invitational and then into the 2022 championship season."
Houston will host the Phill Hansel Invitational at the CRWC Natatorium Nov. 18-20.
