Cougars stand among Top 15 in both national preseason polls
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program checked in at No. 14 in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Preseason Poll, released Wednesday morning.
Houston received 343 points in the poll to stand at No. 14. This marked the second straight season in which the Cougars were ranked in both national preseason polls, a first since 1983-84.
This was the second national preseason poll in which the Cougars were ranked. Houston collected 694 points in the Associated Press preseason poll to stand at No. 15 earlier this month.
The Cougars have been ranked in the AP poll for 27 consecutive weeks, the third-longest streak in school history. The Cougars entered the AP poll on Jan. 20, 2020, and have been ranked every week since that time, including all 17 weeks in 2020-21.
Houston is scheduled to play four games against teams ranked in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Preseason Top 25 with contests against No. 16 Memphis (Feb. 12 in Houston; March 6 in Memphis, Tenn.); No. 13 Alabama (Dec. 11 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.) and No. 25 Virginia (Feb. 16 in Fertitta Center).
The Cougars could face No. 12 Oregon during the Maui Jim Maui Invitational on Nov. 22-24 inside Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas.
Houston also meets Oklahoma State – which received eight points in the poll – during the Hoop Hype XL | College Basketball Showcase inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, on Dec. 18, and could face Notre Dame – which earned three points – at the Maui Jim Maui Invitational as well.
