Day One Concludes at Rice and Houston

Cougars lead into day two after a successful first day of competition
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving programs split to compete in two separate locations across the city of Houston today. Houston's swim team began its weekend competition at the Rice Competition Pool while the diving team hosted the start of the Houston Diving Invitational at the CRWC Natatorium.

At the Rice Invitational, Houston secured a lead of 95 points to the Owls' 72 after nine events following a slight rain delay. The Cougars started the day off strong with a first-place finish in the 400-Yard Medley Relay. The team of Katie Power, Henrietta Fangli, Adelaide Meuter, and Emma Wright completed the race with a time of 3:45:12.

The Cougars also secured first-place finishes in the 400-Yard IM, 200-Yard Breaststroke, 100-Yard IM, and 1000-Yard Freestyle.

Across the city at the Houston Diving Invitational, the Cougar Diving program competed against North Texas and the University of Idaho. The divers competed in the 1-Meter and 3-Meter with platform diving taking place tomorrow. Houston leads the scoreboard in first place heading into the second day of competition. Â

In the 1-Meter competition, Houston's Katie Deininger, Emilia Waters, and Hedda Grelz all held the first three places. Deininger finished the 1-Meter dive with a top score of 286.55. The 3-Meter contest concluded with Houston holding the first four places. Makayla Wallar held the top spot with a total score of 312.75. She was followed by Katie Deininger, Chase Farris, and Emilia Waters.

Day two will begin on Saturday with swimming starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Rice Invitational while diving will begin at 11 a.m. at the CRWC Natatorium. Fans can attend free of charge and follow social media for updates.
