Cougar diving program celebrates individual award following first fall meet
HOUSTON – University of Houston diver Katie Deininger has been named the conference Diver of the Week, announced the American Athletic Conference on Tuesday.
The senior had an outstanding performance in the most recent swimming & diving meet against Texas A&M hosted by Houston at the CRWC Natatorium to kick off the fall schedule. She finished the day with a third-place finish in the 3-meter and 1-meter scoring 288.90 and 288.45.
A native of Cave Creek, Ariz., Deininger is the reigning American Athletic Conference Champion in the 3-meter. During last year's championships, she also placed fourth in the 1-meter.
Deininger has also qualified for three consecutive NCAA Zone D Diving Championships. As a freshman, she was named conference freshman of the year and walked away from the conference championships with a first-place finish in the platform diving competition.
Fans will have the opportunity to watch Deininger and her teammates this Friday and Saturday during the Houston Diving Invitational at the CRWC Natatorium. Starting times for the competition will be announced later in the week and fans will be able to attend free of charge.
