Wochomurka Announces 11-person Signing Class

Cougars ink four signees from Greater Houston area
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program and Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka are happy to announce the signing of Adelaide Meuter, Marta Beesmans Barquero, Henrietta Fangli, Julia Koluch, Abbie Alvarez, Lauren Chaney, Alyssa Bloser, Emma Wright, Keely Rollinson, Mary Catherine Jurica and Josie Graves to National Letters of Intent for the 2021-22 season.
The signing class includes four signees from Texas, including three from the Greater Houston area.
"We could not be more excited about this signing class," said Wochomurka. "We set out with an intentional effort to find individuals that understand and share the core values of our program, and are excited to pursue excellence in their academic, athletic, and social pursuits. We went around the beltway and around the world to put this group together. On paper this is the most athletically talented and diverse class our staff has assembled to date; more importantly, our program is gaining 11 amazing young women that will add tremendous value to the culture of our program far beyond their current and future athletic achievements. A huge shout out to our recruiting coordinator Abbie Houck for her work in assembling this class in such an unprecedented recruiting environment. We cannot wait to get this group here in August!"
ADELAIDE MEUTER | PARIS, FRANCE
Meuter will join the Cougars following a decorated career in France. Meuter competed in the Championnats de France Elite, recording lifetime best in the 100 LCM Butterfly and the 200 LCM Butterfly. She is member of the Cno St-Germain-En-Laye Swim Club.

MARTA BEESMANS BARQUERO | MADRID, SPAIN
The Cougars welcome another swimmer from Spain to the roster with the addition of Barquero. She will join the Cougars after a steller career in her home country of Spain. Barquero competed in the Xxx Copa De Espana De Clubes earning lifetime best in the 100 LCM Backstroke and the 200 LCM Backstroke. She swam for Gredos San Diego, and was teammates with current Cougars Laura Garcia Marin and Mai Ortega Bonilla.

HENRIETTA FANGLI |TÂRGU-MUREȘ, ROMANIA
Fangli will come to Houston after a decorated career in her home country of Romania. Fangli competed in the Romanian International Swimming Championships as a three-time finalist in 2019. She currently swims for the H2o Team Marosvasarhely.

JULIA KOLUCH | ZELECHOW, POLAND
Koluch is joining us following two years at Iowa where she holds the fifth fastest time in program history in the 200 Back (1:57.46). She was ranked second on their team in the 200 Back(1:57.46) and third in the 100 Back (54.63). Koluch earned a 21st-place finish in the 200 Back at the 2019-20 Big Ten Championships. Prior to attending the University of Iowa, Koluch competed at the 2017 European Junior World Championships in Netanya and the is a two-time Polish Nationals qualifier.

ABBIE ALVAREZ | KATY, TEXAS
Alvarez will join the Cougars following a 2020 TAPPS Eastern Region Championship first-place finish in the 200 Y IM and a second-place finish in the 100 Y Breaststroke. She was a member of Katy Aquatics and is ranked 26th in the state of Texas.

EMMA WRIGHT | HOBART, IND.
Wright comes to Houston from Hobart, Ind. where she is ranked fifth overall in the state. Wright had a third-place podium finish in the 2020 IHSAA Girls State Championship, competing in the 100 Y Free. She also placed first in the 2020 IHSAA Girls Sectional Championship- Valparaiso. She is a two-time State Champion in the 50 Y Free.

Graves holds her high school's 1-Meter scoring records with an 11-dive score of 472.9 and six-dive score of 283.5. She is an Academic All-State First Team selection and All-League selection.
