Long Beach State transfer will compete as sophomore during 2020-21 season
HOUSTON – Trip Morris has signed with the University of Houston Men's Golf program and will compete immediately as a sophomore during the 2020-21 season, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke announced Thursday.
Morris joined the Cougars after competing during the 2019-20 season as a freshman at Long Beach State. There, he competed in five tournaments and finished the COVID-shortened season with a 72.36 scoring average.
The Studio City, Calif., native opened his collegiate career by posting a score of 2-under 142 at the Husky Invitational on the way to a 13th-place finish.
Morris went on to shoot a career-best 70 in three other rounds with the Beach.
"We are excited to add a player of Trip's caliber in the middle of the season," Dismuke said. "He will make an immediate impact on our program during the spring semester and for years to come."
Morris was a four-year letterwinner and four-year team Most Valuable Player at Notre Dame College Prep in Sherman, Oaks, Calif., for Coach Steve Biafora. He captured the title at the 2019 SCGA Match Play Championship and finished as the runner-up at the 2019 SCGA Amateur Championship.
Off the course, Morris earned All-League Honors and was a member of the Academic Decathlon.
