Fredgaard Invited to Augusta National Women’s Amateur

Sophomore invited to prestigious event for second straight season
HOUSTON – University of Houston sophomore Karen Fredgaard has been invited to compete at the Augusta National Women's Amateur for the second straight season.
Fredgaard will be one of 72 players competing at the tournament on April 1-4 in Augusta, Ga. The Asserbo, Denmark, native was scheduled to play in the 2020 event before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This marks the third straight season in which a Cougar was invite to compete at the Augusta National Women's Amateur. In 2019, All-American and two-time American Athletic Conference Player of the Year Leonie Harm played at the inaugural event, tying for 57th.
AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR
The international field will compete over 54 holes of stroke play with a cut to 30 players after 36 holes.
The first two rounds will be held on the Island and Bulff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club on April 1-2. The entire field will then play Augusta National for a practice round on April 3.
The Final Round will be held at Augusta National on April 4 with the competitors who made the cut.

ABOUT KAREN FREDGAARD
Competing as a freshman during the 2019-20 season, Fredgaard established herself as a team leader.
She competed all six team-scoring tournaments and led the Cougars with a 71.33 scoring average and 12 rounds of par or better. Fredgaard earned a team-high three Top-10 finishes, including a season-best second-place showing at the White Sands Invitational in the Bahamas.
She posted a career-low 68 four times during the shortened season and helped lead the Cougars to the team championship at the season-opening Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, Tenn.
Fredgaard joined the Cougars following an impressive international career. She was selected to competed for the Danish National Girls Team in 2016-17 and was elevated to the National Team for 2018-19.
She placed 11th at the 2018 European Amateur Championship and finished fifth at the 2018 Ladies British Open Amateur Championship, which was won by Harm.

Tickets to the Augusta National Women's Amateur are sold out following an online ticket application process. No tickets will be available at the gates.
HOW to WATCH
NBC Sports will produce and broadcast three hours (Noon – 3 PM ET) of live final-round coverage of the event at Augusta National. Golf Channel will deliver on-site highlights, live reports and news coverage throughout the event.
Additionally, Golf Channel's "Live From the Masters" will commence on Friday, April 3 at Augusta National to provide coverage of the Augusta National Women's Amateur, the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals and the Masters Tournament.

Fredgaard and her Houston teammates open their 2021 spring season when they tee off at the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando on Jan. 31-Feb. 2.
From there, the team will compete at the Texas State Invitational at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, Texas, before playing host to the Icon Invitationl at Golf Club of Houston on Feb. 22-23.
