Women’s Golf in Fourth after First Day at Huntington Bank Collegiate

Seniors Natalie Saint Germain & Moa Svedenskiöld among Top-10 leaders entering Final Round
DALLAS – The University of Houston Women's Golf program fired a pair of sub-par rounds on the first day of the Huntington Bank Collegiate at Trinity Forest Golf Club on Monday evening.
The 32nd-ranked Cougars finished the morning round with a score of 5-under 283 and followed that with a score of 282 in the afternoon for a 36-hole total of 565 on the 6,283-yard, par-72 course.
Senior Natalie Saint Germain was tied for sixth with a score of 5-under 139 after opening the tournament with a 69 in the morning. Fellow senior Moa Svedenskiöld joined her among the Top-10 leaders and was tied for ninth at 140 after shooting back-to-back 70s.
Starting off No. 3, Saint Germain moved under par with three straight birdies at Nos. 5-7. Following her lone bogey of the morning at No. 8, the Prague native sank eight straight pars before making her final birdie of the First Round at the par-=5 16th hole.
In the afternoon, Saint Germain started her round with two birdies in her first four holes and overcame two bogeys in a four-hole stretch at Nos. 11-14 with her final birdie of the day at the par-5 16th hole.
Beginning her day off No. 1, Svedenskiöld stood at 1-over through her first nine before returning to even par with a birdie on the 497-yard, par-5 10th hole. After four straight pars and a bogey, the Halmstad, Sweden, native closed the First Round with three straight birdies.
In her Second Round, Svedenskiöld rebounded from a 1-over start through the first four holes with three straight birdies at Nos. 5-7 and added her final birdie on the par-3 17th hole.
Senior Alexa Saldaña and freshman Sadie Adams, who was playing as an individual, was tied for 17th at 143. Junior Maelynn Kim and sophomore Emilia Väistö were tied for 25th at 144.
#15 UCLA held the team lead at 559 to stand one stroke ahead of #27 Oklahoma State with #30 SMU in third at 564. #23 Oklahoma (569), #18 Tennessee (572), #25 Arizona (572), #41 TCU (581), Tulane (584) and Colorado State (587) completed the Top 10.
Oklahoma State's Marta Silchenko stood atop the individual leaderboard at 135 to finish one stroke ahead of UCLA's Kacey Ly and SMU's Mackenzie Lee. Gracie Mayo (Oklahoma) and Yu-Chu Chen (Oklahoma State) were tied for fourth at 138 with Arizona's Nena Wongthanavimok joining Saint Germain in sixth at 139.
The Final Round tees off Tuesday morning.
