Gerits, Slisane Guide Houston at TCU Tournament

Pair wins singles and doubles competition
FORT WORTH, Texas – A prolific day from junior Sophie Gerits and freshman Laura Slisane paced the University of Houston Tennis team against Central Arkansas on the third day of the TCU Tournament on Monday.

In doubles play, the two Cougars teamed up to take down the pair of Mei Ishmura and Yada Vasupongchai to win an exciting, 7-5, match for Houston's lone doubles win of the day.

On the singles side, Gerits defeated Ishimura again, winning a thrilling first game, 7-5, then running away in the second to win, 6-1. For Slislane, she took down Sumomo Hamanaga, winning with scores of 6-2, 7-5.

The two were joined by freshman Blanca Cortijo Parreno and sophomore Manasi Reddy as those who also collected wins in singles play against Central Arkansas. Cortijo Parreno defeated Jaeun Lee sweeping fashion, 7-6 (0-6), 6-2, while Reddy won against Paulina Engback, 6-3, 6-3.

Houston chose to extend its stay in Fort Worth and will complete its time at the TCU Tournament on Tuesday, when the Cougars face Central Arkansas once more for a pair of doubles and seven singles competitions. The Cougars will also square up against TCU for one doubles and one singles match. Competition for the is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
