Houston Wins Three Singles Competitions

Cougars to wrap up TCU Tournament on Monday
FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis team completed the second day of the TCU Tournament by winning a trio of singles competitions on Sunday.

Junior Sophie Gerits collected the Cougars' first win of the day, taking down Mercedes Aristegui of TCU in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). Following her victory, senior Phonexay Chitdara and freshman Gabriela Giraldo won their competitions in dominating fashion.

Chitdara came out and defeated Diae El Jardi from Rice, dropping only three games in her 6-2, 6-1 win. For Giraldo, she came one game shy of sweeping the match, having won 6-0, 6-1 against Paulina Engback of Central Arkansas.

On the doubles side, Houston found itself in a total of four matches, facing TCU three times and Rice once, but the Cougars fell in those four competitions.

Houston completes its time at the TCU Tournament on Monday, when the Cougars face Texas A&M in one doubles and two singles, followed by three doubles and six singles against Central Arkansas. Fans wishing to follow along can do so with live stats and a live stream.
