Offensive tackle selected in third round as the No. 72 overall pick
HOUSTON – Houston offensive lineman Josh Jones was selected in the third round as the No. 72 overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals during the 2020 NFL Draft Friday night.
This marks the fifth straight season a Cougar has been selected in the NFL Draft, tied with Temple for the longest active streak by any program in the American Athletic Conference. The five straight years with at least one NFL Draft pick marks the program's longest stretch since 1989-94.
Jones is the first Houston offensive lineman to be selected in the NFL Draft since Sebastian Vollmer in 2009 (New England Patriots, Second Round). The Richmond, Texas, native is Houston's 11th NFL Draft pick since 2013.
Jones also became the first Cougar to be selected by the Cardinals since defensive back Delrick Brown was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 11th round in 1980. He is the fifth Cougar to ever be selected by the Cardinals organization.
The 2020 NFL Draft resumes on Saturday with the final four rounds to be televised on ABC, ESPN, ESPN Deportes and NFL Network.
