HOUSTON – For the third straight season, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program will finish among the nation's Top-25 leaders with the release of the final polls.
This marks the first time Houston finished a season ranked in three consecutive years in school history, according to the best Houston records available. The Cougars advanced to three straight NCAA Final Fours from 1982 to 1984, but the final Associated Press poll of the 1981-82 season came out before the NCAA Tournament was played.
In the most recent polls, the Cougars earned 179 points to finish at No. 22 in the AP Top 25. Houston collected 110 points to finish at No. 23 in the final USA TODAY Coaches' poll of the season.
Before the cancellation of the NCAA Tournament due to the COVID 19 (coronavirus) crisis, the Cougars posted a 23-8 overall record and captured their second straight American Athletic Conference regular-season title with a 13-5 record in league play.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, it was the first time in program history that the Cougars recorded five consecutive 20-win seasons.
