HOUSTON – The University of Houston baseball team dropped its series finale to Texas State, 12-4, on Sunday at Sanders Field at Schroeder Park.

The Cougars fell to 3-7 overall, while Texas State improved to 8-4.
KEY INNINGS
2nd | The Bobcats plated three runs in the top of the second to grab a 3-0 lead.

3rd | An RBI single by catcher Kyle Lovelace put the Cougars on the board, trimming the deficit down to 3-1.

4th | The Cougars plated three runs to grab the lead in the fourth. After Blake Way (single) and Ian McMillan (walk) reached base, Koby Hilland's two-RBI single tied the game at 3-3. After Kyle Lovelace doubled to put two runners in scoring position, the Cougars tagged on another run on Tyler Bielamowicz's RBI groundout which put UH in front 4-3.

5th | Texas State took the lead for good in the fifth inning on a three-run home run.

 6th | The Bobcats added two runs in the sixth to push their lead to 8-4.

7th | In the seventh, a solo home run and a RBI single pushed Texas State's advantage to 10-4.

9th | Texas State plated two more runs on a pair of bases-loaded walks in the ninth to make it a 12-4 final.

HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• The Bobcats outhit the Cougars, 14-4.
• Hyland drove in two runs and finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
• Sophomore Derrick Cherry, Lovelace and Way each recorded one hit apiece.
• Bielamowicz extended his reached base streak to six games by reaching on a walk.

Pitching:
• Junior Jared Pettitte made his third start of the season, but lasted just one inning. The junior gave up three runs on three hits, while walking one batter in the no-decison.
• Senior Brayson Hurdsman took the loss (1-2) in relief, throwing 4.0 innings. The senior gave up three earned runs, while striking out four. Hursdman walked two and surrendered three hits as he matched his longest outing of the season.
• Tristen Bayless (1.0), Spencer Hynes (0.1) and Nick Rupp (0.2) appeared out of the bullpen in Sunday's series finale.
• Freshman Andrew Ferguson made his debut in the eighth, retiring the side in order with one strikeout.
• Bielamowicz (0.1) and Cherry (0.2) also logged their first appearances of the year as both worked in the ninth inning.

The Cougars travel to Rice to face the Owls in the Silver Glove Series on Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. CT from Reckling Park.
