Program Records Fall at Charlie Thomas Invitational

Cougar men take home team title as women finish fourth
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Track & Field team closed out the Charlie Thomas Invitational with two program records, eight first-place finishes and a team title.
The Houston men racked up 146 points, defeating second-place finisher Texas A&M by 23 points. The women's team took home four first-place finishes, including three individual top finishes.

RUNNING EVENTS
The Cougar distance squad got things going for Houston early, as Jemal Wote and Gabriel Armijo each finished among the top-five in the 5000-meter run on Friday night. Wote led UH with a time of 15:22.00 for a fourth-place finish and was followed by Gabriel Armijo in fifth-place at 15:30.07.
Tristan Evelyn had a stellar day on the track, taking third-place in the 60-meters with a new personal-best time of 7.36. Evelyn advanced after winning her heat with a time of 7.48 and was joined in the final by Ashley Seymour (7.55) and Ariele Adams (7.58).
On the men's side Travis Collins continues to be a force in the 60-meters, after leading four Cougars to final in the event. Collins closed out the race with a time of 6.66 in the final for first-place as Terence Ware (6.71) and Jordan Booker (6.78) helped UH take three of the top-four places in the event.
Birexus Hawkins earned a first-place finish in the 400-meters on the women's side with a field-leading time of 54.56. As four Cougars on the men's side finished among the top-10 led by senior Jermaine Holt at 46.93 for second-place overall.
Christian Gilmore ran his way to a third-place finish in the 800-meters, clocking a time of 1:53.50 and taking third-place in his heat.
Houston secured three of the top-four places in the 200-meters as Collins again led the UH sprinters with a second-place finish at 21.14. Ware finished second at 21.15 and was followed by Booker in fourth-place at 21.18.
Devin Vallejo-Bannister gave the Houston men their first team lead of the meet after taking fifth-place in the 3000-meters with a time of 8:27.41.
In the final event of the day the women's 4x400-meter relay squads took two of the top three places and won the event. The Cougars combined for a season-best 3:38.04 for first-place in the event. Houston also took third-place in the event at 3:43.39.
On the men's side Houston clocked a time of 3:08.11 for the 12th-fastest time among collegians this season in the event.
FIELD EVENTS
For the fourth time this season Miles Marhofer broke the program record in the weight throw. The junior surpassed his previous collegiate-best with a throw of 21.40m (70-2.5) for first-place in the event. The mark is tied for the 10th-best among collegians this season.
Nora Monie continues to be a force in the shot put for Houston, taking first-place in the event for the second time this season. Monie took her second top finish of the season in College Station with a throw of 16.10m (52-10).
It was a successful day for Kenneth Pree as he secured a second-place finish in the long jump and surpassed his personal-best in the event. Pree recorded a mark of 7.29m (23-11).
For the third time this season, Taylor Scaife took home first-place in the weight throw. The senior secured first-place with a throw of 20.85m (68-5), followed by Mikaila Martin in second-place at 19.17m (62-10.75).
Houston posted a pair of top-three finishes in the triple jump as Jadon Brome led UH with a second-place finish. Brome recorded a mark of 15.05m (49-4.5), followed by Quinton Stringfellow in third-place with a mark of 14.84m (48-8.25).
The Houston pole vaulters came up big with three vaulters finishing among the top-five in the event. Antonio Ruiz won the event after shattering the program record and clearing 5.40m (17-8.5). Ben Percefull took second-place after clearing 5.11m (16-9.25), followed by Christyan Sampy in fourth-place at 5.01m (16-5.25).
