Will serve as tight ends/inside receiver coach for the Cougars
HOUSTON – University of Houston head football coach Dana Holgorsen announced on Monday the addition of Corby Meekins as the Cougars' tight ends/inside receiver coach.
Meekins spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons at Houston as tight ends/fullbacks coach and most recently was an assistant at Texas for the last three seasons. He will be responsible for Houston's tight ends and the Y-receiver position.
A long-time high school coach in the state of Texas, Meekins coached Ed Oliver at Westfield High School, securing the commitment of Houston's first-ever five-star recruit. As an assistant with the Cougars, Meekins tutored Tyler McCloskey and Hayden Daniels into versatile tight ends, while helping Houston to the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship and a victory in the 2015 Peach Bowl.
At Texas, Meekins coached tight ends for the Longhorns in 2017, before moving to wide receivers coach in 2018 and 2019. Meekins oversaw one of the most prolific pass-catching units in Texas history as the duo of Lil' Jordan Humphrey and Collin Johnson combined for 2,161 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns during the 2018 season.
Meekins also helped develop wide receiver Devin Duvernay, who earned All-Big 12 First Team honors in 2019 and finished with 103 receptions for 1,249 yards and eight touchdowns. Duvernay's 103 catches and 8.6 receptions led all FBS receivers in 2019.
Meekins spent 15 seasons at Westfield High School in Houston, including 11 years as head coach. He guided Westfield to seven district championships and 10 playoff appearances. He also served on the Texas High School Coaches Association Board of Directors from 2009-12 and was a part of the Executive Board of Directors for the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association from 2009-15.
Meekins and his wife, DeAnna, have two daughters – Courtney and Madison.
