Freshman tosses first shutout of her career
HOUSTON – University of Houston Softball freshman pitcher Megan Lee threw the first shutout of her career to pace the Cougars to a doubleheader split on day one of the Houston Classic on Friday afternoon.
Behind Lee's effort, the Cougars (5-2) began the day taking down Dayton, 7-0, before falling to No. 21/21 Oregon by a score of 4-2. In the win over the Flyers (2-5), Lee allowed just three hits and one walk, while striking out six batters in the process.
The two runs Houston scored against Oregon (6-0) were the most runs an opponent has scored on the Ducks this season.

KEY INNINGS
1st | The Cougars wasted no time putting their offense on display, plating three runs in the bottom of the inning. After junior outfielder Charese Wyatt got things going with a double, a walk from senior infielder Sarah Queen put a pair on base with only one out. Senior infielder Kelli Montgomery then stepped up to the plate and launched a three-run home run to quickly put Houston out in front. 3-0.
4th | After retiring the first 10 batters she faced, Lee surrendered her first base runner when the Flyers collected their first hit of the game.
5th | With Houston holding a five-run lead, junior infielder Rock Benavides, extended the lead even further with her two-out single that scored Montgomery and sophomore designated player Bethany Busch to put the Cougars in front, 7-0.

Once the Cougars loaded the bases after back-to-back batters were hit by a pitch, Wyatt came around to score off a wild pitch that gave Houston a one-run lead.
5th | A two-run home run from the Ducks gave them the lead again to hold a 3-2 advantage.
