Cougars continue homestand to open season
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team puts its best five-game start since 2014 on the line, when the Cougars host the Houston Classic from Feb. 14-16 at Cougar Softball Stadium.
The Cougars won four of their first five games, marking the program's first 4-1 start since 2014.
Joining the field of competition this weekend is Dayton, along with a pair of nationally recognized teams in No. 21/21 Oregon and Oregon State. The Ducks are looked upon one of the most prominent programs in the nation, having appeared in the Women's College World Series six times, while the Beavers have reached the NCAA Regionals in three of the last four years.

Hulon's No-Hitter
In her collegiate debut against Valparaiso (Feb. 7), freshman pitcher Logan Hulon made history, tossing a no-hitter in the 9-0 victory over the Crusaders. Her historical night not only marked the 19th no-no in program history, but she also became the first player in American Athletic Conference history to no-hit an opponent in a debut.
She finished the game striking out eight batters, while surrendering just three walks, and throwing just 85 pitches in the five-inning run-rule victory.
Student Faces Mentors
This season, Houston head coach Kristin Vesely will square up against some familiar faces from her playing career, matching up with her former head coach Patty Gasso (Oklahoma), along with an former assistant under Gasso in Melissa Lombardi (Oregon).
As a pupil of Gasso and Lombardi, Vesely finished her four-year playing career as one of the most decorated players in Oklahoma's history, ranking second all-time in hits (293) and appearing in the WCWS (2003-04) twice.
