Cougars tip off vs. Bulls at 8 p.m. (CST) in Yuengling Center; Game airing on ESPNU
TAMPA, Fla. – Winners of seven of its last eight games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program returns to action with a pair of road games this week.
The brief road swing begins at 8 p.m. (CST) Wednesday when the Cougars face USF inside the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Fla.
The Cougars enter this week's game following a dominating 73-46 win over rv/rv Wichita State on Sunday afternoon inside the Fertitta Center. Sophomore guard Quentin Grimes led five Cougars in double-digits with 14 points and added six rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Junior guard DeJon Jarreau added 12 points with seven rebounds and four assists in his return to the Houston lineup, while freshman guard Marcus Sasser and redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills added 11 points apiece. Sophomore guard Nate Hinton posted 10 points with a game-high nine rebounds in the biggest win against the Shockers in series history.
With the win, the Cougars moved into sole possession of first place in the latest American Athletic Conference standings. Houston also moved higher in both national polls release Monday, rising to No. 20 in the Associated Press poll and to No. 19 in the USA TODAY Coaches' poll.
Mills continues to lead the Cougars with 13.0 points per game and needs only four more points to move into the Top 10 in Houston's freshman single-season scoring leaders.
Hinton leads Houston with 9.4 rebounds per contest and is the only person in the American Athletic Conference to rank among the league's Top-3 leaders in both scoring and rebounding.
Following Thursday's game, the Cougars head north on Interstate 45 to take on SMU at 5 p.m., Saturday, inside Moody Coliseum in Dallas.
