Guard collects honor for second straight week
HOUSTON – For the second straight week, University of Houston freshman guard Tramon Mark was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week.
Junior guard Quentin Grimes earned a place on the league's Weekly Honor Roll.
Both student-athletes played key roles in leading the Cougars to a 77-67 win over South Carolina on Saturday inside the Fertitta Center. In that game, Houston competed without Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and Assistant Coach Kellen Sampson due to COVID-19 and contact tracing protocols and guards Marcus Sasser and Caleb Mills due to injuries.
ABOUT TRAMON MARK
Mark continues to impress early in his first collegiate season.
Making his first start of the season, the Dickinson, Texas, native totaled 11 points, thanks to 9-of-12 shooting from the free throw line, and added four rebounds with a pair of steals in the Cougars' gritty 77-67 win over South Carolina on Saturday in inside the Fertitta Center.
Mark was named the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week for Nov. 30 after averaging 14.0 points with 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in three wins against Lamar, Boise State and No. 14/13 Texas Tech.
This season, he ranks third on the team with 15.0 points per game and is averaging 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. Mark also tops the Cougars with 28 free throws with 36 attempts and is second on the team with a .778 percentage from the line.

ABOUT QUENTIN GRIMES
Grimes led all players with 23 points, thanks to a Fertitta Center-record 14-of-15 performance from the free throw line. The Woodlands, Texas, native set the facility record for free throws and tied the mark first set by current teammate DeJon Jarreau.
After being held to only four first-half points, Grimes exploded for 19 points in the final 20 minutes. He came on strong down the stretch, scoring 15 of Houston's final 20 points in the last 8:36 to secure the Cougars' 13th straight home win.
With his performance last weekend, Grimes moved into the team lead with 17.8 points per game and is a close second with 7.3 rebounds per contest. He also leads the Cougars with a .846 free throw percentage.
Forward Jayden Gardner (ECU), guard Landers Nolley II (Memphis), center Michael Durr (USF) and guard Tyson Etienne (Wichita State) joined Grimes on the league's Honor Roll.
