Tune, Turner also named to league’s Honor Roll
HOUSTON – Houston senior wide receiver Marquez Stevenson was named The American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Stevenson led Houston with five receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown in the Cougars' 49-31 victory over Tulane last Thursday. Stevenson's 97-yard kickoff touchdown in the third quarter put Houston ahead for good over the Green Wave.
The Shreveport, La., native recorded his third kickoff return touchdown in his career, which ranks second in program history. Stevenson also picked up his ninth 100-yard receiving game of his career against Tulane last week.
Houston junior quarterback Clayton Tune and senior defensive end Payton Turner were also named to The American's Honor Roll for Week Six. Tune threw for 319 yards and two touchdowns on 20-of-33 passing. The junior also picked up his first rushing touchdown of the season in the win.
Turner turned in a career-best performance, logging seven tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks in the Cougars' season-opening win. Turner was a part of a defensive unit that limited Tulane to just 211 yards of total offense and logged six sacks against the Green Wave.
Houston returns to action on Friday night as it hosts No. 14/12 BYU inside TDECU Stadium on ESPN. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CT. Tickets are available here.
