
Houston Hosts UConn on Thursday Night

Cougars meet Huskies at 8 p.m., inside Fertitta Center in first of two regular-season meetings
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program begins a brief homestand when it plays host to UConn at 8 p.m., Thursday, in American Athletic Conference play inside the Fertitta Center.
The Cougars (14-4 • 4-1 American) enter Thursday's game following an impressive 65-54 win at No. 16/16 Wichita State on Saturday in Koch Arena. Against the Shockers, junior point guard DeJon Jarreau posted 12 points with 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and added a team-high six assists.
Jarreau became the fifth different Cougar to record a double-double this season. Nine different Cougars have scored double-digit points at least once in 2019-20.
With the win against Wichita State, the Cougars moved into a tie with Tulsa atop the latest American Athletic Conference standings at 4-1.
As winners of eight of their last nine games and 12 of their last 14, the Cougars entered both national polls earlier this week. Houston stood at No. 25 in the Associated Press poll and was ranked at No. 24 in the USA TODAY Coaches' poll.
This marked the third straight season in which Houston was ranked for at least one week. A year ago, the Cougars finished the season at No. 11 in the AP and No. 12 in USA TODAY Coaches.
Sophomore guard Quentin Grimes leads the Cougars with 12.8 points per game, while redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills is a close second at 12.6 points per contest. Sophomore guard Nate Hinton ranks third among the Cougars with 11.6 points per game but leads the team and stands second in The American with 9.7 rebounds per game.
Following Thursday's game, the Cougars meet USF at 1 p.m., Sunday, inside the Fertitta Center.

COACHES vs. CANCER SUITS & SNEAKERS WEEK
Fans are invited to join with Sampson and his staff as they wear sneakers for both home game this week during Coaches vs. Cancer Suits & Sneakers Week.
By wearing sneakers, Sampson and the Cougars hope to raise awareness and funds while encouraging fans to educate themselves about cancer prevention.
This season, Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers games will support childhood cancer research, services and awareness as well as promote cancer prevention efforts targeting children.
