Sophomore guard Quentin Grimes posts 17 points in Houston debut
HOUSTON – Making his University of Houston debut, sophomore guard Quentin Grimes led all players with 17 points to lead the Red Team to a 46-41 win over the White Team on Monday evening inside the Fertitta Center.
Grimes connected on 12-of-14 tries from the free throw line and added four rebounds and three assists. Redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills totaled 10 points with three boards in the win for Assistant Coach Quannas White's team. Mills also made his inaugural appearance in the Scarlet & White after sitting out the spring semester as a redshirt with the team earlier this year.
Sophomore guard Cedrick Alley Jr. and junior forward Justin Gorham posted 11 points apiece to lead the White Team. Gorham, who competed in a game for the Cougars for the first time after transferring from Towson, also led the way with seven rebounds for Assistant Coach Kellen Sampson's squad.
The White Team jumped out to a 24-19 lead at halftime, but the Red Team used a 17-5 third period to take the lead for good. Red connected on 5-of-9 from the field while limiting White to only 28.7 percent.
As they wrap up preparations ahead of their trip to Italy, the Cougars competed under modified FIBA rules with 6-minutes quarters and FIBA basketballs.
Following the scrimmage, the Cougars signed autographs for fans.
