Transfer from Texas A&M will compete as a junior beginning in 2019-20
HOUSTON – Ariana Saenz has signed a scholarship agreement and will compete with the University of Houston Women's Golf program beginning with the 2019-20 season, Head Coach Gerrod Chadwell announced Wednesday.
Saenz spent her first two collegiate seasons at Texas A&M. She will compete as a junior at Houston beginning this fall and have two years of eligibility remaining.
"Ariana has a high golf IQ and was one of the best players in the state coming out of her class. She loves to practice and loves to play and will be great in our team room," Chadwell said. "I am excited to have her join our program and make an impact with us during her final two years."
In 2018-19, Saenz competed in one tournament. As a freshman, she competed in 10 tournaments at Texas A&M and tied for fourth at the Bruzzy Challenge with a score of 223, thanks to a career-low 69 in the Second Round of that tournament.
For her impressive performance, she was honored as the SEC Golfer of the Week.
A native of Porter, Texas, Saenz was the No. 44 player in the 2017 recruiting class and ranked No 4 in the state of Texas, according to Golfweek. She helped lead Kingwood Park High School to the 2015 and 2016 Class 5A state championships and tied for third individually as a junior in 2016.
As a junior, she finished among the Top-10 leaders in every tournament in which she competed, including the District 21-5A Championships. She was named the 2012 Houston Golf Association Player of the Year and finished sixth nationally at the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship in Augusta, Ga.
