Cougars earn distinction for eighth straight semester
HOUSTON – For the eighth consecutive semester the University of Houston Swimming & Diving program was recognized by the Collegiate Swimming & Diving Coaches Association as a Scholar All-America team for the 2019 spring semester.
Â
The Cougars highlighted the list as one of the 480 teams selected after closing out the semester with a team GPA of 3.54. At 3.45, the median grade point average among women's teams was the highest on record and Houston was one of five teams in The American to earn the distinction.
Â
"Coach Wochomurka shows that winning titles and achieving academic success go hand-in-hand," said CSCAA Executive Director Greg Earhart.
Â
Houston captured its third consecutive American Athletic Conference title, taking home seven individual titles and sweeping the relays. Head Coach Ryan Wochomurka took home his third women's coach of the year honor as freshman Katie Deininger was tabbed newcomer of the year.
