Junior Lael Lockhart Jr. goes 7.2 scoreless in start
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Baseball team shutout No. 11 ECU, 2-0, on Friday night at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 17-13 on the season and 3-4 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Pirates move to 22-7 overall and 6-1 in league action. The game snaps a 10-game win streak for ECU and is its first conference loss of the season and first shutout since an 8-0 decision at Washington since April 6, 2018.
KEY INNINGS
1st | Junior third baseman Jared Triolo opened the bottom of the first inning with a single and stole second. After advancing to third on a flyout, Triolo came home on a two-out throwing error to give Houston a 1-0 lead.
3rd | With one out in the third, Triolo made it 2-0 with a solo home run to left center.
HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• Triolo finished 3-for-4 with two singles, a solo homer, one RBI and two runs scored.
• Senior left fielder Rey Fuentes III went 2-for-5, but reached four times in the game also getting on behind two errors.
• Freshman designated hitter Derrick Cherry was 2-for-3.
• Sophomore catcher Kyle Lovelace was 1-for-3 and recorded two caught stealings behind the plate.
Pitching:
• Junior southpaw  Lael Lockhart Jr. (2-4) picked up his second win of the season. The native of Friendswood, Texas, carried a no-hit bid two outs into the fifth inning, and after a Pirate reached on an error in the top of the first, Lockhart Jr. didn't allow a base runner to get to second base until the eighth inning. In total, he scattered four hits and two walks while recording a pair of strikeouts across a career-long seven and two-third innings pitched.
• Junior Fred Villarreal logged the final inning and one-third to record his American Athletic Conference leading seventh save of the season.
ON DECK
As announced prior to Friday's series opener, due to expected inclement weather on Sunday, the last two games of the Houston-ECU series have been adjusted. The two teams will conclude their matchup in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. The second game of the doubleheader will start approximately 45 minutes after the end of the first.
PARKING IN 2019
Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
