Cougars, Aggies meet for second time this season
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Baseball team steps out of American Athletic Conference play hosting Texas A&M on Tuesday at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroder Park, in a game presented by ICON Information Consultants.
First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
The Tuesday matchup marks the second time the two teams have faced off in 2019. The Cougars fell to the then No. 23 Aggies, 3-2, on March 3 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park.

SINGLES
• Houston enters Tuesday with a 21-15 overall record.
• The Cougars are coming off 4-0 week. Houston picked up a 12-7 win at Sam Houston State on Tuesday to clinch the Don Sanders Cup, Houston's first series win in the three-year history of the trophy and followed with a series sweep at Wichita State.
• On Monday, junior southpaw Lael Lockhart Jr. was named The American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, while senior first baseman Joe Davis was named to the Weekly Honor Roll. Lockhart Jr. recorded a career-high nine strikeouts and surrendered just one unearned run across six innings in a 13-5, series-opening win over the Shockers. For the week, Davis went 7-for-15 with three home runs, four walks, seven RBI and five runs scored.
• Davis is tied for third in the nation in home runs (16), tied 12th in RBI (46) and is 15th outright in slugging percentage (.728), ranking second in the conference in all three categories. The Austin native also leads the team in hits (44), walks (22) and on-base percentage (.429).
• Davis was named to the Midseason Perfect Game/Rawlings All-America Second Team on April 3. The midseason honor is the first for the Cougars since D1Baseball and Perfect Game tabbed Jake Scheiner to the First Team in 2017.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Devon Roedahl leads The American in wins (5), with all coming out of the bullpen.
• Junior right-handed pitcher Fred Villarreal leads conference in ERA (1.32) and appearances (18). He is also second in the league in saves (7) and opponent batting average (.183).
• Villarreal co-led the nation with a 0.00 ERA through Houston's first 10 games. His streak without allowing an earned run to start the season ended at 13 and one-third innings with two runs surrendered against Rice on March 5.
• Senior designated hitter Rey Fuentes III was named to the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic All-Tournament Team on March 5. At the tournament, Fuentes III batted .300 with one double, one home run, one RBI and three runs scored. The homer, which came against Texas State on March 2, was the first of his career.
• Houston is batting .236 as a team and has a 4.05 ERA, compared to opponents' .233 average and 3.95 ERA.
ON TEXAS A&M
• The Aggies enter the week with a 27-10-1 record.
• A&M, which ranks as high as No. 7 in the polls, is coming off a 2-1 series win over Auburn.
• Junior shortstop Braden Shewmake leads the Aggies in batting average (.329), slugging percentage (.490), hits (51) and RBI (32), and is also tied for the team lead in doubles (8).
• Sophomore closer Kasey Kalich is tied for sixth in the nation in saves (9), while sophomore southpaw Asa Lacy is seventh in seventh strikeouts (7).
• Shewmake was named to the Rawlings Preseason All-America Third Team, while junior southpaw John Doxakis was tabbed to the D1Baseball.com Preseason All-America Second Team. The two Aggies were also named to Preseason All-SEC Second Team.
• A&M, who went 40-22 and 13-17 in league play in 2018, was tabbed to finish fifth in SEC Western Division in the league's annual Preseason Poll.
• A&M is batting .263 as a team and has a 2.88 ERA, which ranks seventh in the nation, compared to opponents' .221 average and 5.32 ERA.
ON DECK
Following Tuesday, the Cougars return to play in The American with a three-game, Thursday-Saturday series against Cincinnati.
PARKING IN 2019
Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
