The 12th-ranked Cougars (28-2 • 15-2 The American) enter this weekend's finale on the heels of a 90-79 win over SMU inside the Fertitta Center on Thursday. That win, combined with UCF's win over Cincinnati on Thursday, clinched a share of The American regular-season championship for Houston and the No. 1 seed at next week's American Athletic Conference Championship in Memphis.
It was Houston's first conference regular-season title since the 1992 Southwest Conference.
Against SMU, junior guard Armoni Brooks led Houston with 20 points, thanks to 6 3-pointers, and grabbed 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and the third of his career. Davis added 17 points with four assists, while senior forward Breaon Brady added 16 points with six rebounds, including four offensive boards.

ABOUT THE COUGARS
With a 28-2 record this season, the Cougars have tied the school's single-season record for regular-season wins under the leadership of Werner Naismith National Coach of the Year Late-Season Candidate Kelvin Sampson.
With a 15-2 mark in The American, Houston has posted the second-highest total for conference wins in a season in school history.
With his 3-point barrage against the Mustangs, Brooks now has 103 3-pointers in 2018-19. He became just the sixth player in school history to drain 100+ treys in a season, joining Robert McKiver (145, 2007-08 and 116, 2006-07), Damyean Dotson (108, 2016-17), Kelvin Lewis (102, 2009-10), Andre Owens (100, 2004-05) and Davis (103, 2017-18).
When he takes the court at Cincinnati this weekend, senior point guard Galen Robinson Jr. will compete in the 130th game of his career. He will move into sole possession of second place in Houston history, moving out of a tie with Ken Ciolli (1975-79) and George Walker (1975-79).
Robinson already ranks among the Cougars Top-10 career leaders in games starts (112, t-6th), conference games started (65, 1st), wins (98, 2nd) and minutes played (3,568, 7th).
