SADDLEBROOKE, Ariz. – University of Houston freshman Maria Jose Martinez claimed the best finish of her young career with a seventh-place showing at the MountainView Collegiate Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

Martinez carded a 1-under 71 in Sunday's Final Round at on the 6,218-yard, par-72 courses at The Preserve Golf Club on the way to a career-best 54-hole score of 5-under 211.

The Alvarado, Mexico, native enjoyed three birdies on Nos. 3, 9 and 17 with only a double bogey on No. 7 to blemish her scorecard.

UNLV's Polly Mack earned medalist honors with a score of 206. Iowa State's Joy Chou and Oregon State's Olivia Benzin tied for second at 208. Missouri's Amanda Kim (209) and Iowa State's Chayani Wangmahaporn (209) completed the Top-Five leaders.

Senior All-American Leonie Harm carded a 1-under 71 to tie for 19^th with a total score of 215 for the 21^st Top-20 showing of her outstanding career.

Freshman Hannah Screen tied for 33^rd at 219, senior Maddy Rayner tied for 45^that 222 and junior Amanda Elich tied for 73^rd at 234. Senior Tatiana Pineda competed as an individual and tied for 68^th 232.

As a team, the Cougars finished eighth with a score of 867

Iowa State won the team championship with a score of 836, while Texas State finished second at 850. Washington (857), Oregon State (857) and Texas A&M (859) completed the Top-Five with UNLV (862), Kansas State (866), Wisconsin (869) and SMU (871) joining Houston among the Top-Ten leaders.

UP NEXT
Following the MountainView Collegiate, the Cougars return to Texas to compete in the Bruzzy Challenge at the Lantana Golf Club in Dallas on April 1-2 for their regular-season finale.

From there, the team will head to Palm City, Fla., to participate in American Athletic Conference Championships at the Hammock Beach Resort on April 14-16.
