Houston Shuts Out DBU, 2-0, to Clinch Series

Cougars win sixth straight
DALLAS -- The University of Houston Baseball team defeated DBU, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Horner Ballpark.
With the decision, the Cougars, winners of six straight, clinch the series and improve to 10-7 on the season, while the Patriots fall to 13-5.
KEY INNINGS
8th | Houston broke up the stalemate with one run in the top of the eighth inning. Freshman designated hitter Craig Yoho singled to left field on the first pitch of the inning. After stealing second and advancing to third on groundout for the second out of the frame, Yoho came home on a bunt single from senior center fielder Grayson Padgett for a 1-0 lead.
9th | In the ninth, the Cougars again jumped on the first pitch of the inning, as junior third baseman Jared Triolo deposited it over the left-field wall for a leadoff home run for the 2-0 final.
HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• Triolo finished 2-for-4 with one double and one home run.
• Yoho and Padgett each singled in the eighth inning, respectively.
Pitching:
• Junior right-handed pitcher Fred Villarreal (2-0) pick up his second win in relief on the season. Villarreal limited the DBU to just two hits over the final three and one-third innings.
• Senior Nolan Bond tossed five and two-third scoreless innings in the start. He held the Patriots to two hits while walking four and striking out three. Bond was called on for the start in place of announced starter Ryan Randel, who wasn't available due to illness.
• Junior Tristen Bayless was used in a left-on-left matchup in the sixth inning.
• The three Cougars tossed the first combined shutout since a 1-0 win over Rice on April 10, 2018, at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. Lael Lockhart Jr. (3.0 IP), Villarreal (3.1 IP) and Carter Henry (2.2 IP) shutout the Owls.
The Cougars go for the series sweep at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
PARKING IN 2019
Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
