MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Houston Men's Basketball program takes its first step in the postseason when it faces No. 9 seed UConn at 11 a.m., Friday, inside FedExForum in the Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship Quarterfinals.
UConn claimed an 80-73 win over USF to face the Cougars in Friday's action.
Under the leadership of two-time defending American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Kelvin Sampson, No. 11/10 Houston earned a First-Round bye after capturing The American regular-season championship with a 29-2 overall record and 16-2 mark in league play. It was the Cougars first regular-season title of any kind since 1992 and the first outright championships since 1984, both in the Southwest Conference
Houston enters this weekend's postseason event following an impressive 85-69 win at No. 20/19 Cincinnati on Sunday. Senior guard Corey Davis Jr. poured in a career-high 31 points, while freshman guard Nate Hinton added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the first double-double of his career.

ABOUT THE COUGARS
Following a historic regular season, the Cougars have already captured many postseason accolades.
This week, Sampson was honored as The American Coach of the Year for the second straight season and the sixth time in his career.
Sophomore guard DeJon Jarreau was named the league's Sixth Man of the Year, the second straight season a Cougar has received this award following Brooks in 2018. Senior point guard Galen Robinson Jr. received The American's Sportsmanship Award.
Davis was named to the All-Conference First Team and the USBWA All-District VII Team, while Brooks earned a place on the All-Conference Second Team. Hinton was named to the All-Freshman Team.
This season, Davis leads the Cougars with 16.6 points per game, while Brooks averages 13.7 points per game and a team-best 6.5 rebounds per contest, making him one of only two players to rank among The American's Top-15 leaders in both scoring and rebounding.
Jarreau ranks third among the Cougars with 9.2 points per game, while Robinson tops the team and ranks second in the league with 5.1 assists per game.

• With a win in the Quarterfinals against (9) UConn, the Cougars advance to The American Championship Semifinals… There, they would face the winner of (4) UCF/(5) Memphis/(12) Tulane at 2 p.m., Saturday.
