Senior guard earns first USBWA postseason award of career
HOUSTON – University of Houston senior guard Corey Davis Jr. added to his trophy case Tuesday afternoon when he was named to the United States Basketball Writers' Association All-District VII Team.
Davis has been a leader for the Cougars throughout his senior season. The Lafayette, La., native leads Houston with 16.6 points per game and is one of Houston's and the American Athletic Conference's most prolific 3-pointer shooters, draining 90 treys.
He has enjoyed 11 20-point games to date this season and scored a career-high 31 points with six assists in Houston's 85-69 win at No. 20/19 Cincinnati on Sunday. That win clinched the Cougars' first outright regular-season conference championship since 1984.
With eight 3-pointers in a road win at Tulane on Feb. 17, he became only the fourth player in Houston history to sink 8+ treys in a single game.
Davis needs only 26 more points to become the 48th 1,000-point scorer in Houston history and needs only 10 more 3-pointers to become the sixth player in school history to reach 200 in his career.
Earlier this week, Davis was a unanimous selection to the All-American Athletic Conference First Team.

Davis was named to the American Athletic Conference Championship All-Tournament Team a year ago and was selected as the Men Against Breast Cancer Cougar Cup Most Outstanding Player in November after leading the Cougars to wins over Alabama A&M, Northwestern State, Rice and BYU.
Davis was joined on the All-District VII Team by Desmond Bane (TCU), Ty Cockfield (Arkansas State), Jarrett Culver (Texas Tech), Daniel Gafford (Arkansas), JaKeenan Gant (Louisiana), Jhivvan Jackson (UTSA), Isaiah Joe (Arkansas), Daishon Smith (ULM) and Tremont Waters (LSU).
Culver was named the District VII Player of the Year. Texas Tech's Chris Beard was recognized as the District Coach of the Year.
Voting was done by USBWA members throughout District VII, which covers Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.
