Melancon extends scoreless inning streak to 17
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Houston Softball team concluded the Highlander Classic on Sunday with a 6-0 shutout win over Omaha.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 18-8 on the year, while the Mavericks fall to 2-16. In the circle, junior pitcher Trystan Melancon tossed her third consecutive shutout and extended her scoreless inning streak to 17 innings.
At the plate, junior infielder Arielle James launched her second home run of the season. Sophomore infielder Caela Kincade drove in a season-high two RBIs with her triple in the fourth inning. Junior outfielder Lindsey Stewart extended her reached base streak to 16 games with her single in the third.

KEY INNINGS
2nd | Junior infielder Arielle James put the Cougars ahead by roping a solo shot down the left field line to give Houston a 1-0 lead.
4th | The Mavericks came knocking at the door in the top of the inning, placing a runner at third, but junior pitcher Trystan Melancon fought her way through the jam and ended the threat to keep the shutout intact. In the bottom of the inning, sophomore infielder Caela Kincade stepped up to the plate and tripled home both James and junior catcher Brianna Burton. After junior outfielder Lindsey Stewart brought around Kincade, Houston took a four-run lead into the fifth inning.
5th | After senior outfielder Sarah Barker led the inning off with a triple, senior first baseman Savannah Heebner came to the plate and singled her in to stretch the lead to the five. Once the sophomore infielder Tierrah Williams brought around Heebner to score and put the Cougars ahead by six.
