
Team Effort Lifts Houston Over No. 24 Arizona, 2-1

Cougars Tyler Bielamowicz, Fred Villarreal hold Wildcats scoreless over final six innings
HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Baseball team defeated No. 24 Arizona, 2-1, on Friday night at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park.
With the win, the Cougars improve to 3-2 on the season, while handing the Wiildcats their first loss at 5-1.
KEY INNINGS
3rd | Arizona scored its lone run of the game via a solo home run in the top of the third inning.
4th | Houston used a two-out rally to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. Senior left/center fielder Grayson Padgett legged out a single in the infield and sophomore right fielder Drew Minter drew a walk to put two on. In the next at-bat, junior shortstop Kobe Hyland singled up the middle to plate Padgett and tie the game at 1-1.
8th | With one out in the bottom of the eighth, senior first baseman Joe Davis hit a go-ahead home run with a no-doubter over the left-center wall.
HOUSTON NOTES
Offense:
• The home run for Davis marked his third of the season and Houston career-record extending 38th overall of his career.
• Minter finished 2-for-3 with a pair of singles for hit first multi-hit game of the season.
• Hyland (1-2, RBI), Padgett (1-for-3, 2 BB, 1 R) and junior third baseman Jared Triolo (1-for-4) each collected one hit, respectively.
Pitching:
• Junior right-handed pitcher Fred Villarreal (1-0) tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to pick up the win. The native of Brownsville, Texas, allowed zero hits with two strikeouts and one walk across nine batters faced.
• Junior southpaw Tyler Bielamowicz recorded career highs with five strikeouts across six innings in the no-decision. He allowed one run on two hits with no walks.
• Together, Bielamowicz and Villarreal combined to not allow a hit over the final six innings against the Wildcats, a team that was averaging 17 runs through its first five games.
• The combined two-hitter marked the first for Houston since Trey Cumbie (6.2 IP), Carter Henry (2.1 IP), Brayson Hurdsman (5.1 IP) & Joey Pulido (0.0 IP) in a 2-1, 15-inning loss at Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 23, 2018.
ON DECK
The Cougars go for the series win at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Don Sanders Field at Darryl & Lori Schroeder Park. Fans should note the game time is one hour later than listed on printed materials, as announced on Feb. 13. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
The first 500 fans who bring their ticket from the Houston-USF men's basketball game will get in for FREE, with the next 500 getting HALF-PRICE tickets while supplies last.
PARKING IN 2019
Gameday parking is offered in a different capacity than in prior years. Anyone entering Lot 16B (across the street from right field) will be subjected to paying a third party company employed by campus. This lot will no longer be an option for free parking on gamedays. All other lots surrounding the stadium will be free of charge two hours prior to first pitch.
