HUMBLE, Texas – University of Houston junior George Gardner posted a 1-under 71 to lead the Cougars and move into a tie for ninth following the Second Round at the All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston on Tuesday afternoon.

Competing on the 7,067-yard course, the Cougars recorded a team score of 292 and moved into a tie for second with No. 37 Baylor at 578, five strokes behind second-day leader Sam Houston State.

No. 34 South Carolina (582), Charlotte (582), No. 49 Mississippi (583), UTSA (587) Rice (591), North Texas (597) and McNeese (598) rounded out the Top-10 team leaders.

Opening his day on No. 1, Gardner made birdie on each of his first two holes and endured only a bogey on No. 5 through his first 11 holes.

The Southlake, Texas, native added back-to-back birdies on Nos. 12-13 before battling through a pair of bogeys on his final five holes to finish the day at 1-under 143.

Senior Matt Williams was steady throughout the day, sinking a birdie on the 580-yard, par-5 15^th hole with only one bogey on his scorecard. The Calgary, Alberta, native was tied for seventh overall at 2-under 142 to lead the Cougars.

Sophomore Alexander Frances was tied for 12^th at 145, while junior Alex Isakson was tied for 31^st at 148. Junior Logan Young was tied for 58^th at 153.

Competing as individuals, sophomore Andrew Gibson and senior Zach Tracy were tied for 22^nd at 147, while freshman Braxton Watkins was tied for 54^th at 152. Senior Carson Cavner was tied for 70^th at 155.

Mississippi's Cecil Wegener held the individual lead at 6-under-138 after posting a 68 in Monday's round. John Gough (Charlotte) and William Holcomb (Sam Houston State) were tied for fourth at 140, while No. 47 Blake Elliott (McNeese), Jack Randle (Sam Houston State) and Mark Reppe (Baylor) were tied for fourth at 141.

FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
Final-Round play begins at 8 a.m., Tuesday at Golf Club of Houston. The Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from Baylor and Sam Houston State.

Young begins the day at 9:30 a.m., off No. 1, with Isakson (9:39 a.m.), Frances (9:48 a.m.), Gardner (9:57 a.m.) and Williams (10:06 a.m.) following.

Among the individuals, Tracy will start the day for Houston off No. 10 at 9:03 a.m., with Gibson (9:12 a.m.), Watkins (9:30 a.m.) and Cavner (9:39 a.m.) following.

UP NEXT
Following the All-American Intercollegiate, the Cougars will compete at the Cabo Collegiate on March 3-5 at Querencia Golf Club in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.

From there, the team will host the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on March 11-12.
