Cougars travel to College Station looking to improve national rankings

HOUSTON – The Houston Track & Field program will send a group of seven student-athletes northwest this weekend for the Aggie Twilight inside the Gilliam Indoor Track & Field Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M.

On the men's side, Houston will be sending three student-athletes. Travis Collins will compete in the 60-meter dash looking to rise up in the rankings from 42nd in the nation and third in The American Athletic Conference. Felipe Valencia will be competing in shot put to improve his 38th ranking in the nation and to keep his lead in The American. Triston Gibbons will also compete in shot put,looking to rise up from fifth in The American.

On the women's side, Brianne Bethel will be fighting to enter the rankings as she makes her 400-meter dash debut. While she is making her debut, Bethel ran the first leg in Houston's 4x400-meter relay last week in a time of 52.96. Birexus Hawkins will also be competing in the 400 to improve her ranking of 49th in the nation and third in The American. Naomi Taylor will be competing in the 60-meter hurdles looking to up her ranking of 26th in the nation and maintain her lead in The American. Tristan Evelyn will be making her Houston indoor debut in the 60-meter dash.

Houston action at the one-day event kicks off Saturday night at 5 p.m. with the women's 60-meter dash. At 6 p.m., Houston's final two athletes will end the night in shot put.
