Cougars tip off vs. Gamecocks at 11 a.m. (CST) Sunday inside Colonial Life Arena
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Winners of three of its last four games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program returns to action when it takes on South Carolina at 11 a.m. (CST) Sunday, inside Colonial Life Arena.
The Cougars (4-2) come into this weekend's contest following a gritty 68-60 win over Texas State on Wednesday on Penick Court in the Fertitta Center. Sophomore guard Quentin Grimes led the Cougars with 21 points and three assists, while sophomore guard Fabian White Jr. added 15 points with six rebounds.
Without taking a shot from the field, senior center Chris Harris Jr. had a tremendous impact in the win. The Houston native grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, including seven off the offensive glass, and swatted six shots – all in the second half – to lead the Cougars to the win.
This season, Grimes, leads the Cougars and is tied for fifth in the league with 16.8 points per game. The Woodlands, Texas, native is one of five Cougars averaging double-digit points, joining White (12.5 ppg), sophomore guard Nate Hinton (11.2 ppg), junior guard DeJon Jarreau (11.0 ppg) and redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills (10.5 ppg).
Hinton leads the Cougars with 8.8 rebounds per contest and is one of only three players to rank among the league's Top-6 leaders in both offensive and defensive rebounds per game.
