Houston Hosts FGCU in Mid-Day Meeting

Cougars host Eagles for first time in program history
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Women's Basketball team welcomes Florida Gulf Coast to the Fertitta Center for a mid-day meeting on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
Wednesday's meeting is the second all-time between the two teams. FGCU holds the all-time record series 1-0 after defeating Houston 76-71 last season.
GAME NOTES
COUGAR FASTBREAK
•Houston enters Saturday's game with a 4-4 overall record this season after going 1-2 at the Greater Victoria Invitational.
• Houston has three players averaging double-digits this season led by Dorian Branch with 12.3 points per game, she is followed by Tatyana Hill who is averaging 12.8 points per game. Julia Blackshell-Fair is third in scoring on the team providing 10.0 points per game and coming off her first career double-double.
• Houston is averaging 71.1 points per game which is second in the conference on 39.3 percent shooting from the field and a 25.4 percent mark from beyond the 3-point line. The Cougars allow 73.2 points per game on defense while letting opponents shoot 41.4 percent and 33.5 percent from the field and beyond the arc, respectively.
• Hill leads Houston on the glass, pulling down 6.6 rebounds per contest.
• Houston is a tough team to beat on the glass, averaging 18 offensive boards per game which is 9th nationally and first in The American
• Houston has forced 151 turnovers by its opponents this season, with 15 or more forced turnovers in six of its eight games. Under Coach Hughey, Houston has been one of the most active defensive teams in the country over the past two seasons. The Cougars are experts at protecting the rim, entering the game ranked 19th nationally in blocks (39) and 31st in Blocks Per Game (4.9).

• FGCU enters Thursday's contest with an 8-1 overall record. The Eagles most recently defeated Notre Dame, then No. 20 USF and South Dakotoa and enter the game on a five-game winning streak.
•FGCU is averaging 81.2 points per game on 42.4 percent shooting from the field and 35.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
• FGCU enters its 18th season under Head Coach Karl Smesko and is led in scoring by Davion Wingate who is averaging 18.0 points per game. Tytionia Adderly leads the Eagles on the boards with 10.4 rebounds per game, as Keri Jewett-Giles leads the squad with 35 assists this season.
