Sophomore guard Nate Hinton named to American Honor Roll
HOUSTON – After leading the Cougars in scoring in a pair of home games last week, University of Houston redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills was honored as the American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.
For the second time this season, sophomore guard Nate Hinton earned a place on the league's Honor Roll.
Mills came off the bench in both games to lead the Cougars against UT Arlington and Oklahoma State. The Arden, N.C., native averaged 20.0 points per game with 3.0 rebounds per contest.
Mills scored 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from behind the arc, and posted a steal in Wednesday's win over the Mavericks.
He led all players with 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting against Oklahoma State and grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds with a blocked shot.
With his impressive totals, he moved into third on the team with 11.4 points per game.
This was the first weekly award of Mills' career.

Hinton finished as the team's leading rebounder after averaging 9.5 rebounds per contest and finished second among the Cougars with 18.0 points per game
The Gastonia, N.C., native posted a career-high 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting to set the Houston record for scoring in the Fertitta Center. Grabbing 10 rebounds, he posted his second straight double-double, third in a four-game stretch, fourth of the season and the fifth of his career.
Hinton already owns the Fertitta Center rebounding record after grabbing 15 boards against Houston Baptist on Nov. 26.
Hinton finished second among the Cougars with 11 points against Oklahoma State and fell just one rebound shy of his second double-double of the week.
Wichita State sophomore guard Erik Stevenson was named the league's Player of the Week. Hinton was joined on the Honor Roll by UCF junior forward Collin Smith, ECU sophomore forward Jayden Gardner, USF junior guard David Collins and Temple sophomore forward Jake Forrester.
