Cougars compete in first postseason since 2000
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball team has accepted a bid to the 2019 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) and will play Sam Houston State at 5 p.m. in the opening round on Dec. 5.
Â
"I could not be more proud of how our team has competed all season long," 2019 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year David Rehr said. "To see how far we've come in such a short period of time speaks volumes of the kind of people that our team is made up of. I'm happy for our seniors, who now have another opportunity ahead of them to leave a legacy."
Â
The Cougars are making their first postseason appearance beyond a conference tournament since 2000, when Houston received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Hosted by UT-Arlington in Arlington, Texas, Houston's region in the NIVC is round out with UTSA and UT-Arlington.
Â
The Cougars enter the NIVC with a 16-16 mark after posting a 10-6 record in The American, the most conference wins since 2013. Spearheaded by Rehr's Coach of the Year accolade, Houston landed three players on the All-Conference Second Team, the program's first All-Conference selections since 2015.
Â
Complete information about the NIVC will be available at a later date.
