Houston Leads FGCU After Opening Day of Action

Cougars sweep two events and the relays on opening day
FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The University of Houston Swimming & Diving program jumped out to a quick start on the opening day of dual-meet action at Florida Gulf Coast.
Houston leads 117-69 through 10 events. Action is set to resume tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. CT and results can be found using the Meet Mobile App or by clicking HERE.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Houston won each of the relay events, racking up top finishes in both the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay. Laura Laderoute, Peyton Kondis, Katie Higgins and Mykenzie Leehy combined for a time of 1:39.87 in the 200 Medley Relay as Zarena Brown and Samantha Medlin joined Leehy and Laderoute to post a time of 3:22.03 in the 400 Free Relay.
Houston posted a pair of podium sweeps as Brown (1:47.38), Leehy (1:47.48), Medlin (1:49.14) and Rachel Hicks (1:51.74) took the top-four spots in the 200 Free.
In the 100 Backstroke, Laura Laderoute led the squad with a time of 54.53 for first-place and was followed by Kathryn Power (55.05) and Ioanna Sacha (55.27)
Kondis also took home an individual first-place finish after leading the field in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:01.09. Haley Benjamin represented the Houston distance personnel with a first-place finish in the 1650 Free at 17:08.65.
On the boards, Lauren Burrell notched a second-place finish in the 3-meter with 293.78 points to lead Houston as the divers took four of the top-five spots.
UP NEXT
Houston will return home to the Campus Recreation & Wellness center to prepare for the Phill Hansel Invitational Nov. 21-23 at the CRWC.
