Cougars look to remain unblemished in The American
HOUSTON – Off to its best conference start in 18 years, the University of Houston Volleyball program continues its road swing, as the Cougars travel to Wichita, Kan., and Tulsa, Okla., for matchups against Wichita State and Tulsa.
Â
Houston, in the midst of a four-match road trip, started the first leg with a pair victories at Tulane and Temple to move to 4-0 in American Athletic Conference play for the first time since 2001. With those two wins, the Cougars have now win 10 of their last 15 matches.
Â
Each one of those contests with the Green Wave and Owls went to the distance, marking the eighth and ninth time this season the Cougars have played in a five-set match, which is more than any other team in the nation. Overall, Houston has competed in six consecutive five-set contests, having won their last five in a row.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
- After beginning the 2019 campaign dropping its first four contests, Houston has bounced back nicely, having won 10 of its past 15 matches.
- With its 4-0 start in American Athletic Conference play, Houston is off to its best start in league action since 2001, when the Cougars began Conference USA play 6-0. The last time Houston started 5-1 in conference was 2005.
- Houston is no stranger when it comes to going the distance, as the team's nine five-set contests on the year are more than any other program in the nation. Overall, Houston is 6-3 in such matchups, and have competed in six-straight five-set matches, which is also the longest streak of its kind in the country.
- The Cougars are the only school in the conference to have more than one player win a Player of the Week honor, having already won three. This is the first time Houston has had three different players earn a conference Player of the Week (Abbie Jackson, OPOW-9/9; Katie Karbo, DPOW-9/23; Megan Duncan, OPOW-9/30) honor since 2006.
- As one of the best liberos to come through the Houston program, Karbo continues to the climb the charts in the record book. Karbo enters the weekend leading the nation with 425 digs on the year, and also leads all Division I active players with her 2,144 career digs, which ranks second in program history.
