Medlin Named American Swimmer of the Week

Cougar junior earns first weekly award of career
HOUSTON – With two top-two individual finishes and a hand in a relay victory junior Samantha Medlin is tabbed as the American Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday afternoon.
After helping Houston post a convincing win over conference foe Tulane in its home opener, Medlin caps of a strong week of swimming with the first weekly honor of her career and the first weekly honor for the Cougars this season.
Medlin opened the day with a second-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (1:44.69), swimming the third leg of race and finishing right behind another Houston squad who took first-place in the event. In the 200 Freestyle, Medlin took second-place at 1:51.14 for her second podium finish of the day.
The junior would earn top honors in the 500 Freestyle, besting the competition with a finishing time of 4:53.91. Medlin concluded the day with another first-place finish, as she swam the second leg of the 400 Freestyle Relay to help the Cougars sweep the relays with a time of 3:29.38 in the event.
UP NEXT
Houston will remain in Houston as the swimmers' head across town to Rice for the Rice Invitational and the divers host the Houston Diving Invitational on Oct. 11-12.
