Cougars set to meet first ranked opponent of 2018-19 season
HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Women's Basketball team opens American Athletic Conference play with an 11 a.m., tipoff against 1/1 UConn on Sunday inside the Fertitta Center.
Sunday's contest will be the first game of a doubleheader with the Houston Men's Basketball team welcoming Memphis to the Fertitta Center at 5 p.m. Fans with a ticket to the men's game Sunday night can show their ticket at the door and receive $5 admission to the women's game.
Fans can see the game against UConn live via CBSSN with Ben Holder handling play-by-play duties and Julianne Viani serving as the analyst. Fans can also hear the contest against the Huskies live via the home for Houston Women's Basketball Radio, UHCougars.com/wbbradio. Live statistics are also available through SideArm Stats, and the official Twitter account of Houston Women's Basketball, @UHCougarWBB, will offer updates throughout the game.

American Opener – Sunday's contest will serve as Houston's American Athletic Conference opener. Houston picked up their first win to open conference play since joining the league with an 85-75 victory over SMU a season ago.
Number One Spot – Sunday's contest will be Houston's 16th game all-time against the number one team in the nation. UConn has been ranked No. 1 in each of the previous six meetings against the Cougars.
Second Chance – Houston has been a dominating force on the offensive glass this season. The Cougars rank 24th in the NCAA and lead the American with 16.0 offensive rebounds per game.
I'll Take It – Individually on defense, junior guard Jasmyne Harris has collected 44 steals this season, which ranks second in The American and 11th in the NCAA.

Sunday's meeting will be the seventh all-time between the two teams. UConn holds a 6-0 advantage in the series. The Huskies have been ranked No. 1 in the nation in all six meetings.

Houston enters Sunday's contest after finishing the non-conference season with a 6-7 record. Houston has won two straight contests after defeating George Mason and Southern Miss.
Houston has a pair of student-athletes averaging double figures in scoring, including Jasmyne Harris whose 16.8 points per game paces the squad and ranks fifth in The American. Angela Harris ranks second on the team with 10.3 points per game.
Houston is averaging 73.8 points per game on 40.8 percent shooting from the field and 27.6 percent from beyond the 3-point line. UConn averages 83.0 points per game on 49.2 percent shooting from the field and 38.4 percent from beyond the 3-point line. The Huskies outscore opponents by an average of 26.8 points per game. All five of the Huskies' regular starters, Katie Lou Samuelson (19.4), Napheesa Collier (18.4), Crystal Dangerfield (13.6), Christyn Williams (13.3) and Megan Walker (10.7), average double figures in scoring.
