For the first time this season, the Cougars enter play following a loss after a tough 73-69 setback at Temple on Wednesday night in Philadelphia. Houston's 15-game winning streak was the third longest in school history and the longest since the 1982-83 team won 26 straight.
Against the Owls, senior forward Breaon Brady totaled 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting and added three rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Guards Corey Davis Jr. and Nate Hinton finished with 11 points apiece.
While the Cougars' overall streak came to an end, they will put a longer streak on the line against the Shockers this weekend. The Cougars have won their last 28 home games for the nation's longest active streak, including the last nine in the beautiful $60-million Fertitta Center.
The Cougars are ranked No. 15 in the latest USA TODAY Coaches poll, No. 17 in the most recent Associated Press and at No. 9 in the NCAA NET rankings. Houston also stands among the nation's Top-10 leaders in multiple defensive categories, including opponents' field goal percentage (36.3, 2nd), opponents' 3-point field goal percentage (26.5 , 4th) and scoring defense (60.1 ppg, 9th).
This season, senior guard Corey Davis Jr. leads the Cougars with 15.2 points per game, while senior point guard Galen Robinson Jr. ranks second in the league with 5.4 assists per contest.
Robinson, who has played all 115 games during his Houston career, is poised to become only the second player in school history to record four 100+ assist seasons as a Cougar.
