Houston Returns Home for Alumni Weekend

HOUSTON – The Houston soccer team looks to remain spotless at home with a pair of weekend matches against Sam Houston State on Sept. 7 and McNeese State Sept. 9.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Houston returns home for a pair of weekend matches against Sam Houston State and McNeese State.
The Cougars are 1-0 at the Carl Lewis Complex this season and 6-2-1 at home under Head Coach Diego Bocanegra.
Olivia Lee has two game-winning goals this season and two goals for her career.
Mia Brascia has a team-high three assists this season, followed by Kaitlyn Wild with two.
Desiree Bowen and Jazmin Grant also have two goals each this season and Bowen leads the team with 16 shots.

SCOUTING THE BEARKATS

Houston leads the all-time series with SHSU 5-0-0, last meeting with the Bearkats in 2010 when Houston won in a 1-0 decision.
SHSU is 1-3-1 so far this season and 0-2-1 on the road. The Bearkats lone win came on Aug. 16 against Utah State.
Sam Houston is in its 10^th season under Head Coach Tim Brown.
Four players have scored one goal each this season and two have notched assists.

SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS

Houston leads the all-time series with McNeese 6-0-0, last meeting in 2015 when the Cougars won 3-0.
The Cowgirls are 5-1-0 this season and 1-1-0 on the road. McNeese's only loss is at the hands of TCU in a 1-0 decision.
McNeese is in its third season under Head Coach Drew Fitzgerald.
The Cowgirls are led in scoring by Havana Johnson with 19 points off of three goals and one assist.

OTHER NOTABLES

Rachel Estopare is tied for third all-time in saves at Houston with 181.
Jazmin Grant is tied for third all-time in points per game with 1.12
Houston is outshooting opponents 92-59 this season and accumulating 12 more corner kicks.

UP NEXT
Houston will return to action next weekend when it travels to Colorado Springs for meetings with Air Force (Sept. 13) and Colorado College (Sept. 16).

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS
The Houston Soccer program is excited to celebrate 20 years of Houston soccer this season. The team unveiled a logo on June 14 that represents 20 years of Houston soccer. The logo is featured on one of the three uniforms that the Cougars will wear throughout the season.

Sept. 9: The Houston Soccer team is proud to announce its partnership with the Lupus Foundation of America – Texas Gulf Coast. During its Sept. 9 match against McNeese State the Houston Soccer team will be holding a silent auction featuring special guest Olympic Medalist and World Cup Champion Shannon Boxx. All proceeds will benefit the Lupus Foundation of America – Texas Gulf Coast.
