Rayner, Gilbreth Tee Off in U.S. Amateur Championship

Senior, alum each make first appearance in nation’s premier amateur event
KINGSTON SPRINGS, Tenn. – Two University of Houston Women's golfers will compete at the U.S. Amateur Championship, beginning Monday morning at The Golf Club of Tennessee.
Senior Maddy Rayner and letterwinner Emily Gilbreth (2013-17) will tee off in the nation's premier amateur event on the 6,365-yard, par-71 layout. The Cougar duo will be part of a field of 156 players.
This will be the first U.S. Amateur Championship appearance each for Rayner and Gilbreth.
Players will compete in 36 holes of stroke play – 18 holes each day Monday and Tuesday – with the Top 64 players advancing to match play, starting Wednesday morning.
TEE TIMES
For Monday's First Round, Gilbreth will tee off No. 1 while competing in a group with Jessica Yuen and Karoline Tuttle. Rayner will begin her day at 2:31 p.m., off No. 10 in a group with Bianca Pagdanganan and Jamie Huo.
On Tuesday, Rayner begins the Second Round at 9:01 a.m., off No. 1, while Gilbreth starts off No. 10 at 1:58 p.m.
ABOUT MADDY RAYNER
Rayner will be a senior for the Cougars during the 2018-19 season. The Southlake, Texas, native has competed in 16 tournaments during her career and enjoyed a career-best ninth-place showing at the HBU Husky Invitational on March 19-20.
Rayner earned her place at the U.S. Amateur Championship after firing a 71 to finish second in a qualifier at Kenwood Golf & Country Club in Bethesda, Md., on July 10.
ABOUT EMILY GILBRETH
Gilbreth competed for the Cougars from 2013-17 and was a member of the first team in program history during the 2013-14 season.
The Houston native ranks third in school history with 6,729 strokes in 89 rounds during her career. She became the third player in program history to win an individual title, posting a 70 in the Final Round at the UNF Collegiate to tie with Cougar Megan Thothong at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club on March 8, 2016.
Off the course, Gilbreth was a four-time member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
Gilbreth qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship after posting a 69 to win a qualifier on the Cypress Course at Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, on July 2.
